About
Vince Cayo is a touring multi-instrumentalist, folk singer and recording artist out of Bradford, England.
Fresh out of school he hit the road and honed his trade on the roads of Europe and America, drawing inspiration from the likes of Flogging Molly, Billy Bragg and Bob Dylan.
Eventually settling in West Yorkshire, gigs started lining up across England and Europe while connections were being made, which eventually led to an introduction to top West Yorkshire producer Grant Henderson with whom Vince would make two albums, Bound For Glory (2017) and Lucky Red Hat (2018).
“ This (Lucky Red Hat) channels some big themes into real gone songs! “
– Jumbo Records
Vince Cayo is one of the most promising young folk singers in Yorkshire, having walked stages big and small and in countries as many as England, Scotland, Belgium, France, The Nertherlands, Greece and the USA
His sound and performance has been described by London Celtic Punks as :
“ A strong voice that growls out at you like Tom Waits
lashing it up with Shane McGowan ”
Following a few years off to pursue different musical ventures such as rockabilly/skiffle trio Vince & The Cayotes and punk rock quartet Gevaudan Dogs, Vince Cayo sprung back onto the scene and racked up a series of gigs in the Spring of 2024 to mark his return to solo action, and enjoyed great critical acclaim.
This return to action was eventually marked by his first solo release in 6 years, with the release of the haunting and powerful single “Atomic Veteran Blues”, recounting the harrowing story of the Atomic Veterans (survivors of atomic bomb tests during the Cold War).
Soon after that, Cayo travelled out to county Galway to start work on what would become his folkiest and most mature work to date: Second Skin. This album marks a turning point in Vince's career with a much deeper foray into the Irish tune and singing tradition with tracks such as Carrickfergus and The Butterfly garnering the album, whilst also establishing himself further as a potent songwriter and storyteller, the latter being reinforced by the release of a 64-page book to complement the release of the CD, complete with lyrics and back stories which are leading many to delve deeper into the man's music to uncover hidden layers to the material.
Second Skin saw the light of day on 13 February 2026 with a sold out launch gig followed by a tour of England and a debut US tour the following April. The album also multiple airplay on BBC Introducing, with show host Jericho Keys having this to say:
“Raw and passionate storytelling with a genuine story to tell”
While FATEA Magazine's Neil King described the album as “A Raw, melodic fusion where acoustic storytelling meets a wiry, insurgent edge”
Over the years, Vince has shared stages with the following: The Rumjacks, Days'N'Daze, Tony Wright, The Real McKenzies, TAU, Damien Dempsey, Jesse Ahern, My Druthers, Lewis Pugh, Serious Sam Barrett, Barleycorn Bastards.
Keep an eye for Vince Cayo in your town! Have tunes, will travel xx
